Frequently Asked Questions from Volunteers
Question: “What is the Rogue River Project?”
Answer: “The Rogue River Project (RRP) is a volunteer and donation-based organization founded by Andrew Kersting in April 2005. The sole mission of the RRP is to help clean-up and maintain the natural beauty of the Rogue River and it’s surroundings.”
Question: “How can I help?”
Answer: “You can help by joining us for a volunteer event, such as the Annual Rogue River Clean-up.”
Question: “What will I be doing as a volunteer during a clean-up?”
Answer: “Well, you’ll be helping fellow volunteers pick-up trash and other debris from the river and along the river banks. Everyone works as a team, helping each other out.”
Question: “Do I have to walk the entire length of the clean-up?”
Answer: “No. The clean-up is cut into sections that are a mile or less, that way volunteers don't have to walk the entire distance if they don't want to. However, if they want to go farther they can.” Question: “How long does the clean-up take?”
Answer: “Normally it takes about 3-4 hours to complete, however, it can take less time depending on how many volunteers attend.”
Question: “What if it's raining?"
Answer: “If it's raining on clean-up day or has rained heavily prior to the clean-up day we will NOT be doing the clean-up. If water levels reach unsafe levels the clean-up will be canceled, please be sure to check this site for further information about weather-related cancellations."
Question: “How do I find out more about an event?”
Answer: “You can check out the main page by clicking HERE or give me a call at (616) 866-5896, I’d be more than happy to assist you.”
Question: “How can I sign-up for an event?”
Answer: “You can use the Sign-up form on the Take Action page or you can e-mail me at andrew@TheRogueRiverProject.org or you can call me at (616) 866-5896.”
Question: “Do I have to stay for the entire event?”
Answer: “No, you may leave whenever you want, we’d love for you to stay for the entire event though! Volunteers who only attend PART of an event are NOT eligible for the drawing, sorry!”
Question: “How deep is the river?”
Answer: “It’s normally between 1-4 feet deep, some areas are deeper but we generally stay away from those areas.”
Question: “What is the minimum age that a volunteer should be?”
Answer: “I’d suggest that no one under the age of 12 attend since we are working in and near water and picking up trash and debris. Ages 12-17 MUST be accompanied by an adult during the entire event.”
Question: “What do you suggest I bring with me?”
Answer: “Bring along a pair of gloves to protect your hands while picking up trash and debris. You will also need boots or waders since we work near water.”
